Prebbles since c.1500
Walter Prebble, was born about 1498 in Denton, Kent, England in the reign of Henry Tudor (1485-1509). This period was one of national unity following the strife of the 15th century. Walter is the earliest Prebble ancestor identified thus far. His wife was also born in Denton about 1502 and they had a son Robert to whom Prebbles in New Zealand, Australia and America can all trace their ancestry.

Robert Prebble was born in Denton, Kent in 1530 during the reign of Henry VIII the founder of the Church of England (1509-1547). In that same year Sir Francis Walsingham the English statesman was born at nearby Chislehurst. (Walsingham discovered the plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth I which led ultimately to the execution of Mary Queen of Scots). Robert was married in Denton in 1559 when he was 29 to Elenor then 25 having survived the reigns of both Edward VI and Mary. They had four children: Robert born in 1560, John in 1562, Richard in 1564 and Helen in 1577. He died aged 59 and was buried in Wooton on 23rd June 1589. Elenor was also buried there on 19th July the following year.

Richard Prebble was christened at Denton in Kent in 1564 early in the reign of Elizabeth I (1558-1603) the last of the Tudor rulers of England who gave her name to an era, Elizabethan England, later regarded as a golden age of national triumph and cultural brilliance, with a victorious struggle against the Spanish Empire typified by the defeat of the Armada, and the flowering of the English Renaissance. Richard was married in Barham, Kent on 3rd October 1604 at the age of 40 to Margaret Allen. This was just after the union of the crowns in 1603 when James VI of Scotland became the first Stuart king of England. Richard and Margaret had three children: Elizabeth, a son also named Richard in 1610 and another son whose burial is recorded in 1612 in Kingston coincident with his mother's death. Richard the father subsequently married an Elizabeth in 1613 with whom he had another two children - William born in 1614 and Ellen born in 1617. Elizabeth died in 1628 and Richard was married again the following year in Canterbury to an Elizabeth Spencer who also came from Denton. He was then 65 and she was 30. He died at the age of 97 in 1661, a year after the restoration of the monarchy under Charles II, having outlived his son Richard by more than 20 years.

Richard Prebble (the younger) was christened on 15th April 1610 in Kingston, Kent and was married on 27th October 1633 in Christon, Somerset when he was 23 to Willman Hart with whom he had three children: Richard born in 1635, William born in 1637 and Thomas born in 1638. Little is currently known of Richard or his wife nor of the birthplace of their children. He died, aged 30, in 1640 during the reign of Charles I (1625-1649) just before the start of the English Civil War.

Thomas Prebble was christened in 1638 during the reign of Charles I and by the time that he married Mary Horne on 15th October 1667 when he was 29 the English Commonwealth had come and gone. Thomas and Mary had five children: Thomas born in 1668, Elizabeth in 1670, John in 1673, Margaret in 1675 and Mary in 1676. He died in 1678 at the age of 40 during the reign of Charles II (1660-1685).

John Prebble was christened in 1673 and married Margaret Gibbon on 6th July 1696 when he was 23. John and Margaret had nine children: Margaret, Alice and Michael were born during the reign of William of Orange (1689-1702) Mary, Thomas, John and Thomas during the reign of Queen Anne the last sovereign of the house of Stuart (1702-1714), and Henry and Sarah during the reign of George I (1714-1727). John Prebble died in 1750 at the age of 77 during the reign of George II (1727-1760).

Henry Prebble was christened on 16th July 1716. He married Elizabeth Pierce in 1739 when he was 23 just after the accession of King George III (1738-1820) They had three children: Stephen born in 1740, John in 1742 and Thomas in 1744. Elizabeth died in 1745 and Henry was later remarried in 1748 at the age of 32 to Amey Belamy who was then 25 and with whom he had a further seven children: Henry born in 1749, John in 1751, Michael in 1754, James in 1757, Margaret in 1761, Mary in 1764 and Thomas in 1768. He died in 1791 at the age of 75. Amey died aged 83 in 1806.

Thomas Prebble was christened on 17th March 1744. He married Mary Hambrooke on 26th October 1783 when he was 39 and she was 25. They had eight children: George Pierce born in 1784, Mary Jane in 1786, Richard in 1789, Thomas in 1791, James in 1794, Elizabeth in 1796, Catherine in 1798 and William in 1800. He died in 1834 shortly after the death of George IV (1820-1830) at the age of 90 during the reign of William IV (1830-1837). Mary died aged 88 in 1846 early in the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901).

George Pierce Prebble (carpenter) was christened on 10th October 1784. He married Ann Downe on 27th May 1809 when he was 25. Their son Thomas was born in 1810.

Thomas Prebble (master plumber & painter) was born in 1810 in Alkham (four miles west of Dover) and moved to St. Lawrence, Ramsgate around 1840 with his first wife Eliza Stonebridge and their family. Eliza was born in Middlesex in 1810. Together they had five children Elizabeth born in 1834, Eliza in 1848, Thomas Frederick in 1840, James in 1845 and Selina in 1850. Thomas was married again on 26th August 1860 aged 49 to Joyce Pierce aged 21 at Ramsgate Ebenezer Independent Chapel. Joyce was born in Stonar and they had five children together: Walter Charles born in 1860, Angela in 1864, Lavinia Joyce in 1866, George Mount in 1870 and Zaphnath Paaneth in 1877. Thomas died on 14th March 1885 aged 75 and was buried in St Lawrence. Joyce died at the age of 86 in 1925.

Walter Charles Prebble (master decorator) was born on 18th October 1860 in Ramsgate and was christened in St Lawrence on 9th December of that year. He was married on 26th April 1883 aged 22 to Elizabeth Sarah Smith who was also aged 22 in Ramsgate Christ Church. They had five children: Walter J. born in 1885, Frank in 1886, Annie Lilian in 1888, Douglas Harold in 1889 and Hilda in 1891. He died in Edmonton Middlesex in June 1922

Douglas Harold Prebble (butler) was born on 19th January 1889 in Ramsgate whilst Queen Victoria was still on the throne. He was married on 26th November 1942 aged 53 to Catherine Kerr then aged 37 at Hatfield Registry Office in Hertfordshire. He died on 21 January 1954 in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary aged 65. His wife Catherine was born in Lochthorne, Dumfries on 5th March 1905 and was christened on 25th June of that year. She died in Maud Aberdeenshire on 10th January 1970 aged 64. They had one son Neil.
